CNC Machining Aluminum 5083 Engine Cover Project
Aluminium is a chemical element the most abundant metal. Also, aluminum is a kind of widely used material in custom cnc machining, which also has a variety of types, for instance, aluminum 5052, aluminum 5083, aluminum 6061, aluminum 6061-T6, aluminum 7075, aluminum 7075-T6 etc.
Recently, we had completed a complex new CNC Machining Aluminum 5083 Project, let’s share this case study together here.
Project details:
Project Name: CNC Machining AL-5083 Engine Cover Project
Material: Aluminum 5083
Process: CNC Machining, Tapping, Grinding
Lead Time: about 25-30 days
Quantity: 10 sets for 2 items
Product Application: this aluminum 5083 engine cover part will be used for the engine, which requires rigid tolerance.
1. Material Inspection
The material purchased will be checked well by quality inspection team before production to make sure good quality.
2. Raw Material on the CNC 5 Axis Machining Center
After the raw material was checked well, it will be fixed properly by the fixture on the cnc 5 axis machine for production
3. Programme and Debug Machine
The machinist inputs the code to make the programme and debug the cnc 5 axis cnc machining center before starting the machining process.
4. CNC Machining Milling Process
After debugging the 5 axis cnc machine, the parts will be fine machining process through 5 axis machining to be finished product, during this process, different side and hole position need to be machine well, which will take about 4.5 hours. Generally, it will take about 9 hours to produce a sample, but in batch production, we will optimize the tool path to shorten the processing time by 2 hours, that is, which will take about 7 hours to complete the parts in mass production. By using 5 axis cnc machine, which can achieve high efficient and high precision for parts for machining process.
5. Tapping Process
After completing the cnc machining and milling process, the parts will be proceed with threading as per the threading details and requirement as per drawing subsequently.
6. Grinding Process
The parts will be ground for some areas to meet the surface roughness requirement on the drawing after threading well, which will make the surface of parts more smooth and nice.
7. Quality Inspection Process
After completing a series of work-stage with cnc machining, cnc milling, tapping and grinding, the finished product will be checked thoroughly by quality inspection team to make sure good quality work before shipment.
